Crooks is a black man who is not appreciated by the others. This caused a divide between them, so now crooks have nobody for him to: speak to, lean on and depend on. This caused crooks to feel as if he was alone. Candy is another representative of loneliness. In the story candy only friend, his dog, dies. He mopes for hours and seems to be secluded from the world. He accompanied himself with that dog, therefore, he had nobody to speak with either. Curley’s wife is another example.
