The adjusted RRs (as estimated by the hazard ratios from the Cox proportional hazard model) associated with different increments of PM2.5 exposure from active cigarette smoking, SHS, and ambient air pollution were plotted against estimated average daily inhaled dose of PM2.5. The average inhaled dose was surmised to be 12 mg PM2.5 per cigarette in case of an active smoker.
